Data

Data as a concept is just information. Through the day we are exposed to so much information, the synthesis of it is impossible.

However when we can manipulate that data, (by extracting, transforming, and loading it into systems that allow us to take action or make decisions), we can create moments where we get closer to our goals.

Since I was an elementary school kid, I have been making tables and charts of everything in my life. I’d make projects like finding the library code for every book in the scholastic catalog, or making stacks of the years of the coins on my dad’s dresser.

In high school I spent hours of my free time trying to code a Dungeons and Dragons character sheet into Excel, using vlookup to assign and calculate the bonuses granted at each level for the splat books I owned.

I will never stop trying to organize information to synthesize it, and am lucky I get to do this in my professional life now.

But I won’t stop making little data projects like a sentiment tracker for this season of Canada’s Drag Race.
